Each year, the Nagano CIRs collect photos showcasing international residents’ favorite things about life in Nagano, or introducing home cultures, and display them in photo exhibits throughout the prefecture. Through these exhibits, participants can share the beauty they see in Nagano, and viewers can gain both intercultural understanding and new perspectives on the areas around them. Our goal is to connect communities through our photos.
This year, out of consideration for the ongoing pandemic, we will be displaying the photos and encouraging participation online, as well as hosting a weeklong display in the Nagano Prefectural Government Office entryway to promote the event.
This year’s theme is: Naganonbiri ながのんびり
While 2020’s new normal brought us lots of time at home, it also led us to appreciate our local areas and comforts, and discover new ways to take it easy. We learned the joy of nonbiri—quiet, relaxed, and peaceful time—spending leisure time at home, or coming to appreciate the gentle stillness found in nature.
This year, the Nagano CIRs are asking for photos that reflect the nonbiri moments in your Nagano life. Join us in sharing your photos and stories!

Submissions
- Send photos by email to: naganocir@gmail.com, subject “Photo exhibition”
- Eligible participants: International residents within Nagano Prefecture
- Please include: Your photos, photo titles and brief descriptions, your name, home country, and mailing address for prizes
- Submission period: March 29–May 6
*We will not use this information for any purpose other than the photo exhibit, and will delete it following the event.
Gift Prizes
- Five submitters will be chosen by raffle to receive Nagano-themed goods and prizes.
- If selected, you will be notified by email following the online exhibition.
Rules and Regulations
- You must be the original photographer and copyright holder of all submitted images.
- The photos submitted must not have been used for other photo competitions or for business or commercial endeavors.
- Please do not take photos of private locations without permission.
- Please be careful not to infringe upon likeness or intellectual property rights.
- Please be sure you have permission from all individuals in your photos prior to submission.
- Limit three photos per submitter.
